Your students can play the basics. Now what?

Most rhythm resources stop exactly where the interesting stuff begins. They cover the fundamentals and leave you with nothing for the students who are ready for more, the ones who are bored of quarter notes and asking you what comes next. Ymarfer Music's Rhythm Flashcards Volume 2 — Full & Broken Rhythms is what comes next.

137 premium A4 cards exploring broken subdivision patterns, the rhythmic combinations that appear constantly in real music and almost never in teaching resources. Broken sixteenth note combinations. Broken triplet patterns in every position. Dotted rhythms. Off-beat rests. The figures that separate a student who can play exercises from a student who can read real music.

Clean professional notation. A counting reference on every card. A full instruction booklet with seven brand new ready-to-use activities drawn from The Rhythm Practitioner's Playbook, a completely different selection from Volume 1. Instant download on purchase.

WHAT ARE BROKEN RHYTHMS?

Real music doesn't stay in clean pure subdivisions. Real music breaks them. It puts a pair of eighth notes on beat one, a group of sixteenth notes on beat two, a quarter note rest on beat three, and a triplet on beat four. Real music puts the subdivision where it needs to be to create the feel and groove the moment demands, not where it's most convenient for the reader.

Volume 2 is the bridge between students who can play rhythm exercises and students who can read real music. Those are two very different things, and this is the pack that closes the gap.

USING BOTH VOLUMES TOGETHER

Volume 2 cards are numbered continuously from Volume 1, starting at card 101. Both volumes use identical card formats, same dimensions, same notation style, same visual language. Pull cards from both packs in the same session and they look like they belong together because they do.

Assign Volume 1 cards to developing students and Volume 2 cards to advanced students. Both groups play simultaneously. Same pulse, same bar of 4/4, one coherent ensemble. Nobody waiting, nobody held back. That's the Ymarfer system working exactly as it's designed to.

WHO IT'S FOR

Drum teachers whose students have outgrown basic subdivision cards and are ready for real rhythmic challenge. Classroom music teachers working with intermediate and advanced students. Peripatetic teachers who need resources that grow with their students. Workshop leaders working with experienced musicians. University music programmes. Any teacher who already owns Volume 1 and wants to keep the challenge growing.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

137 rhythm flashcards in PDF format, A4, print ready. Full instruction booklet with seven activities from The Rhythm Practitioner's Playbook, different activities to Volume 1. Instant download on purchase, delivered directly to your email.

THE SYSTEM

Volume 2 builds directly on Volume 1 — Core Rhythms, available now in this store. Both volumes work together as a single seamless teaching system. Volumes 3, 4, and 5 are in development, extending the series into complex rhythms, alternative time signatures, and sustained and melodic rhythms. The teacher who builds the complete collection builds a rhythm teaching system capable of serving every student, every setting, and every level for the entirety of their career.
